Play it All... every god damn format!!

Most of the problems with viewing content downloaded from Internet is that you must have the codecs used to compress that files. So here is the solution. One player that plays it all. No matter what and above all its OpenSource and Free to use. Plain interface works with all the Operating Systems... just piece of Magic.

Get VLC Media Player now and forget the rest! I have stopped using Windows Media Player, Winamp etc.

Looking for a job in Pakistan

Firstly, one resource that is worth signing up for is Pak Jobs IT. It has about 25217 members. It is a Yahoo! Group so what you would need to do is send them an empty email using your email account to pak-jobs-IT-subscribe@yahoogroups.com and they will mail you latest jobs right into your mail box.

Their homepage address is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pak-jobs-IT/

Secondly, try to narrow down your job search and target only couple of jobs/companies. This approach works better than any job or any company. Mailing your CVs randomly would not help and you will get frustrated pretty soon.

  • Try sites like http://www.cv-library.co.uk for putting your CV together.
  • Basically the CV should be two pages maximum otherwise you are putting a lot more than necessary. Just put the relevant information not all your life history from Nursery to Graduation.
  • Do not let anybody reformat your CV according to a specific standard. Make sure your CV stands out with a personal touch.
  • Make sure you get the name of the person you should be sending applications to. You can call the number advertised and ask them who you should be addressing your cover letter.
  • Don’t use MS Word for your CV because it is not flexible try to send your CV in PDF format. You can make a PDF online using a free trial at Adobe, you will have to sign up… other way is to just buy Adobe Acrobat Professional from Hafeez Center.

Well best of Luck!!

Radiohead in Studio!

Radiohead is in studio working hard to make their new album... they are doing it like Kid A again... which was a major change in their creative approach. Rob Kleckner (Pitchfork) writes:
It's good to see a group working so hard to create something different, unlike certain other English groups, who are content to stick their platinum-selling formulas. But we're not naming any names...cough cough...COLDPLAY! Oh weird, what a strange sneeze!

You can see their first blog... where they are posting the progress... Dead Air Space
Jonathan (greenplastic.com) writes:
Have you been reading Dead Air Space? If you haven't then you've been missing out. We haven't seen this must action by Radiohead in one week in such a long time. Here are some highlights:

The band have been hanging out in the woods which is soooo Radiohead. Pretty soon you'll see Coldplay in the woods too. Looks like they are working on two songs called "Mornin M'Lud" and "Piggsee". Thom is feeling sleepy in Morrissey's room while Ed is saying that "really good things are happening" in the studio. And who is Louis? Is that Jonny's dog?

Make sure you're reading Dead Air Space

Takk.... "Thank you"

Google Video and Yahoo Video Search

Google Video. See an example (image).
The google video is still beta. It comes with a plug-in that you can install and view the videos right inside the browser. Which is really neat. Otherwise you would have to download different players for different videos such Real Player, Windows Media Player or Quicktime.

Yahoo has started video search. See an example (image).
http://video.search.yahoo.com/

Did you know there are more videos being watched on AOL than on MTV?

Yahoo is moving towards something Wired calls "The Super Network" which is using the Internet to provide video content when you want it. Check out the article at Wired. Also there is a introduction video by Brightcove you guys should check out.

Not to forget! Everybody is downloading there favorite show or movies right of the Internet using tools such as Bittorrent. Sites like ThePirateBay have enormous content.

Microsoft Mail: Kahuna

Microsoft is building a new hotmail... not a surprise after the success of Gmail they have to copy something. The mail beta is only out for a specific user group who is constantly involved in the development of the service. Microsoft team's Imran Qureshi is maintaining a blog and you can track the development at http://spaces.msn.com/members/imranq2/

The code name for Mail Beta is Kahuna (it can be taken as an Urdu word meaning "Say").

Everybody is now developing applications that behave like desktop applications while inside the browser. Even Yahoo recently bought Oddpost last summer, the new Yahoo mail will have features like Gmail with some more features such as: Folders (instead of Labels), keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+N for new message etc), and you can open a new window for messages.

Yahoo is buying a lot of companies lately... so far I know of Flickr, Oddpost, Konfabulator... and may be a lot more.

Underneath the skin!

Underneath the skins we wear everyday...
or most of us do...

in the streets, colleges, and offices of the
so-called sinless state of Hippocrates.

Some of you might be interested in this clip... the famous clip of a guy and girl doing it in a web cafe... the owner of the cafe breaks in and catches them and not to mention the camera recording it all...

here is the link...
(9.2 MB, Right Click and save target as... it is an MPEG file probably Winamp 5 will play it)

Google Sidebar: "Info when you want it, right on your desktop"

I downloaded the new version of Google Desktop Search now called Google Sidebar. I have one word for it "Wicked". It now centralizes all your content into one nifty bar. You can find all your emails, photos, web history and gmail at one place. See the screen shot.

Go and give it a try and tell me what you think?

Piggsee

Welcome to my new blog!
This blog will be useful than the previous one. Which was the previous one you ask: It is a secret! Well have a lot of posts to write before my third term at VFS starts.

Google Talk!

What is it?

Google Talk is a messenger service by Google. You can use your GMail account to log in once you have downloaded it from http://www.google.com/talk/

Whats good in it?
Well, you would not really see the "wow factor" in Google Talk which is generally expected from Google. The notable features are: Integration with Gmail and "skype-like" voice capabilities. The voice chat is really good. Better than MSN and Yahoo.

Whats not in there?
No group chat.
No emoticons.
No fonts.
Only for Windows.

For me... I will soon abandon MSN Messenger for sure.

Read more about it at Wired:
